Charles Schwab Trader API integration
When TD Ameritrade accounts moved to Charles Schwab, the old TD Ameritrade API was retired and tools built on it stopped working. Schwab’s Trader API replaced it, with different sign-in, different endpoints and its own streaming service. We build automated trading systems on the Schwab Trader API, and rebuild older TD Ameritrade tools for it.

What a Schwab build involves
- Sign-in that keeps working. The Schwab API uses an authorisation flow in which the account holder signs in and approves the app, and that approval has to be renewed from time to time. A system has to handle renewals cleanly and tell you before access lapses.
- Streaming and polling. Live quotes come over Schwab’s streaming service; orders and positions come through the API. The system keeps both in step.
- Equities and options, including multi-leg options orders, with your risk checks before every order.
- Several accounts under one sign-in, each with its own limits.
Coming from TD Ameritrade or thinkorswim?
If you had a script or bot on the TD Ameritrade API, it needs rebuilding rather than patching: sign-in, endpoints and data formats all changed. We rebuild it on the Schwab Trader API and check its behaviour against the original. If your logic lives in thinkorswim studies, we rewrite it as code that trades through the API.
We build software that runs your strategy. We don’t supply strategies or signals, we don’t manage money, and we make no claim about how any strategy performs. The rules and every trading decision stay yours.
Common questions
- My TD Ameritrade API bot stopped working. Can you fix it?
- Usually by rebuilding it on the Schwab Trader API. Sign-in, endpoints and data formats changed in the move, so a patch rarely works. We keep your logic and rewrite the connection.
- Does a Schwab API bot need me to log in regularly?
- Yes, from time to time. Schwab requires the account holder to approve the app and renew that approval periodically. We build the system to remind you before access lapses and to stop trading safely if it does.
