Trading and investing systems for NRIs
You live in Dubai, London, New York, Toronto or Singapore, and you trade or invest in India, in the US, or in both. The markets open while you are at work or asleep. We build systems that follow your own rules through every session, on a server that never sleeps, and keep you informed wherever you are.
Who we have built for
We have built custom automated trading systems for NRI clients based in Dubai, London, the US, Canada, Europe and Singapore: some for Indian markets, some for US markets, and some for both from one system. Each one runs the client’s own strategy, to the client’s rules.
The time zone problem
NSE trades from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm India time. In London that is before dawn to late morning; on the US East Coast the Indian session starts late in the evening. The US regular session, 9:30 am to 4:00 pm in New York, runs from the evening to past midnight in Dubai and through the night in Singapore. Running a strategy by hand across those hours means trading tired or missing the moves your rules are written for.
A system on a server solves it. It follows your rules through each session, handles the order details at any hour, and sends you alerts for what you want to hear about. Our guide on home PC or cloud server explains why a system you depend on belongs on a server, and our guide to time, holidays and half days covers running on two market calendars at once.
Indian markets from abroad
You trade India through an NRI trading account with an Indian broker. What that account may trade, and how, is set by the account type and your broker, so we start by confirming it with you rather than assuming. Once the system places orders through the broker’s API, SEBI’s retail algo framework applies to it as it does to any client: a static IP for your server, a proper sign-in, and order rate limits. Our guide to the rules explains them, and our Indian broker page lists the brokers we have built on.
US markets from abroad
For US stocks, options and futures, most clients living outside the US work through a global broker such as Interactive Brokers, our most requested integration: see Interactive Brokers API integration and our pages for clients in the UAE, Singapore and the US.
Both markets in one system
Many NRIs hold accounts in both countries. One system can keep a separate connection to each broker, apply your rules to each market on its own calendar and in its own currency, and give you a single view of positions, orders and alerts across both. The engineering is the same as our multi-broker platforms.
Investing, as well as trading
Not every NRI client trades actively. Some want their own investing rules carried out on schedule while they get on with life abroad: buying set amounts at set times, rebalancing to target weights, or alerts when holdings drift. That work is on our page for investors.
What stays with you
The strategy, the rules and every decision stay yours. Your account rules are your broker’s to set, and tax questions are for your tax adviser. We do not give investment advice, we do not manage money and we make no claim about returns. We build the software, over email and video calls, in whichever time zone suits you.
Common questions
- Can my system trade Indian markets while I live abroad?
- Yes, through an NRI trading account with an Indian broker that offers an API. What that account may trade, and how, is set by the account type and your broker, so we confirm it with you before we design anything. The system then runs on a server and follows your rules through the Indian session, wherever you are.
- Can one system cover my Indian and US accounts?
- Yes. One system can hold a separate connection to each broker, for example an Indian broker’s API and Interactive Brokers, apply your rules to each market on its own calendar, and give you one view of everything.
- Do I need to be awake when the market is open?
- No. The system runs on a server through each session and follows your rules. You set alerts for the things you want to know about, and check in when it suits your day.
- Do you advise on NRI accounts, tax or what to trade?
- No. Account rules are your broker’s to set, tax questions are for your tax adviser, and the strategy is yours. We build the software that carries out your rules.
